Best wireless keyboard for productivity

Introduction

In this video, I’m going to compare 3 of the most popular wireless keyboards on the market and reveal which one I think is the best wireless keyboard for productivity.

I’ll be comparing the main features that each wireless keyboard has to offer and make sure you watch until the end because I’ll be doing a typing speed test to see which wireless keyboard is the fastest.

Welcome back to the channel everyone and if you’re new here, then on this channel we talk about a lot about productivity including app and tech reviews just like this.  And if you’re like me and are always looking for ways to boost your productivity then please consider subscribing for more content!

With that out of the way, let’s get stuck in.

Selection Criteria

In my opinion, any keyboard that is geared towards productivity should have the following minimum criteria for it to feature on our ‘best wireless keyboard for productivity’ list:

Wireless or Bluetooth connectivity

Anything that helps make the desk look less cluttered and clean is a must.

Simplicity and productivity go hand in hand and having a wireless keyboard on your desk is a great feature.

It also allows you to sit back in your seat and still use the keyboard and not have to worry about the cable being pulled or being too short.

Multi-device support (up to 3 devices)

This might a bit of an overkill but I think the keyboard should be able to support up to 3 devices at once.

I don’t know about you but I’ve got a desk set up that contains 2 laptops (1 for work and 1 for personal use) as well as a more portable Surface Pro that also doubles up as a tablet. So that’s 3 devices in total.

Therefore I need a keyboard that is continuously able to switch between the 3 devices.

Return Key or ‘enter’ key should be large

This one is controversial because I know that many people who can speed type at extremely fast speeds don’t mind smaller return keys on the keyboard.

However, in other for a wide range of applications, having a large return can be.

Backlight keys / illuminated keys

Being able to see the keys during low light conditions is a very important factor.

Whilst this might not be as important for those that can type without looking down at their keyboard, I still think that inevitably there will be scenarios when you need to look at the keyboard, and not being able to see the keys can be very frustrating.

For example, these days we all use a huge range of different applications on our computers and each has its own unique shortcuts that we like to use.

Long Battery life

There is no point in having a wireless Bluetooth keyboard if you have to keep charging it all the time and therefore have to use it wired.

Personally, I prefer removable battery-powered wireless keyboards (AA or AAA) to lithium battery ones as they last longer and also don’t degrade over time.

Logitech MK850 Wireless Keyboard

Logitech MK850

Pros

  • Supports wireless connectivity for up to 3 devices
  • 3 year battery life
  • QWERTY UK layout option available
  • Works with both PC/MAC
  • Adjustable tilt legs with 3 height levels
  • 12 programmable keys via Logitech software Options

Cons

  • No backlit keys so limits usage in low light
  • The wrist support is hard to clean
  • Keystrokes are more sticky compared to the Logitech MX keys and Logitech K720
  • Keystrokes are loud compared to the Logitech MX keys and Logitech K720
  • I’m not a fan of the curved keyframe profile of the keyboard especially for speed typing
Logitech MK850

The curved profile is focused around the middle of the keyboard. It’s an interesting design and one that is very unique and requires getting used to it for it to be comfortable.

Logitech MK850

I like the fact that the multi-device keys are placed over the home key area of the keyboard and don’t interfere with the F1, F2, F3 keys like it does in the K720.

The 12 programmable keys of Logitech keyboards and mouse is absolutely brilliant for productivity. This is because it takes a standard keyboard and turns it into one that is customized for your individual workflow. The great thing is that you can customize keys per software application and that means that you have so many more customization combinations than just 12 keys.

Logitech K780

Pros

  • Multi-device support for up to 3 devices.
  • Compact design with the size of the keyboard is the smallest compared to MX Keys and MK850.
  • QWERTY UK layout option
  • Very quiet when typing
  • 2 years battery life
  • Built-in integrated stand for tablet and phone placement
  • Programmable keys by using Logitech software

Cons

  • No backlit keys so limits usage in low light
  • The position of the muti device switching keys is at the same place as F1, F2, F3 keys which can be annoying when trying to use F2 related shortcuts.
  • Not having the page up and down a section of the keyboard means some standard shortcuts are not possible e.g. ctrl + page up to more tabs in Microsoft Excel

K780 WIRELESS KEYBOARD

I love the portable design and the fact that you can carry this in your bag with your laptop and tablet and be sitting in a cafe with your tablet and phone placed on the integrated built-in.

Very hard to fault it this keyboard as it does have the full package in terms of features that you would want from a wireless keyboard.

Typing Speed Test Winner

I used the website https://10fastfingers.com/typing-test/english to test my typing speed on all 3 of the wireless keyboards featured in this video. The results are pretty obvious:

1st Place went to the Logitech MX Keys wireless laptop. I was able to register on average 80 words per minute.

2nd Place went to the Logitech K720 wireless keyboard. I was able to register on average 71 words per minute.

and Finally, the 3rd place went to the Logitech MK850 wireless keyboard. I was able to register on average 64 words per minute.

Overall Winner

MX Keys is the best overall option in my opinion. I’ve been using it for over a 1 year and it’s still as good as new. Perfect for those people that have more than 1 PC/mac on their desk. Whilst the battery life could have been longer, I don’t mind it as much because I only ever use MX Keys on my desktop and there is always a USB C table at hand to charge (approx 1 hr to full charge). Whilst the Logitech MX Keys is an expensive wireless keyboard option, I believe it has all the key features needed to be the best wireless keyboard for productivity.

if you’re always looking for ways to boost your productivity then you’ve come to the right place!
